Current suggests movement rather than a destination – of goods, people, money and stories. The hessian had already travelled through commercial systems before reaching the studio; Phokojoe’s stitching interrupts that anonymous passage with slow, embodied labour learned through his mother. The work situates migration not as a single departure, but as a continuing condition in which people improvise connections across places. A stitch can redirect the current without pretending that the journey has been undone.
