Numbered 9/9, Fi records the stated limit of its edition, although an edition number does not necessarily establish the order in which examples were made. The distinction is important because editioning is a legal and commercial system as much as a studio process. Signatures, numbers and records establish scarcity; fabrication gives each object its physical history. Fi condenses that system into a modest work whose value depends not only on Villa’s authorship, but on the integrity of the edition and the documentation that follows it.
