At 2.66 metres, Lindo is connected to the architectural scale through which Villa became part of Johannesburg’s modern city. His steel sculpture often entered corporate plazas, campuses and civic settings, where modernism advertised progress, confidence and institutional power. Made in 1993, this editioned work carries that public language into a period of political transition and private circulation. It raises a practical question for collectors – how does a monument change when it leaves the civic realm and becomes part of a home, garden or private collection?
