Its importance lies partly in continuity – the postwar turn to welded steel had become a sustained late-career practice rather than a technical novelty. The edition programme also changed how that vocabulary circulated, allowing a form developed through public and one-off sculpture to enter several collections. Late work is not merely repetition here, but an experienced artist reorganising established means for a different system of production and audience.
